2. “US official: growing threat from solar storms”
“A senior official at the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says solar storms pose a growing threat to criticial (sic) infrastructure such as satellite communications, navigation systems and electrical transmission equipment…
NOAA Assistant Secretary Kathryn Sullivan says the intensity of solar storms is expected to peak in 2013 and countries should prepare for ‘potentially devastating effects.’ …
Sullivan, a former NASA astronaut who in 1984 became the first woman to walk in space, told a U.N. weather conference in Geneva on Tuesday that “it is not a question of if, but really a matter of when a major solar event could hit our planet.”

“Normal natural disasters are floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes and being prepared for disaster means being ready for any type of emergency — including zombies. On Monday [May 16], the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] blogged about preparing for disaster and reminded readers that in the event of a zombie apocalypse, basic preparedness will help even if there are flesh-eaters roaming.
The CDC recommends that planning ahead for zombies is really no different than preparing for other types of disaster. The same basic principles apply.”
