“A carrot is strapped to an examining table. After the experimenter wires it up to a galvanometer, he pinches the vegetable with forceps. The machine registers “infinitesimal twitches, starts, and tremors,” according to one report. The year is 1914, the scientist is named Jagadish Chandra Bose, and a journalist in the room writes, apparently without irony: “Thus can science reveal the feelings of even so stolid a vegetable as the carrot.
Today, that conclusion — and the experiment — seems absurd. Whatever is happening inside a carrot, it’s not a “feeling” in any sense we’d understand. For that, a carrot would need a brain, or at least a central nervous system, which it most certainly does not have. The scientific consensus is clear: Plants do not experience the world the way we do.
‘We can’t equate human behavior to the ways in which plants function in their worlds,’ writes Daniel Chamovitz, who runs a plant biology lab at Tel Aviv University and surveys the field in a new book, What a Plant Knows. (He considers that title a kind of literary shorthand, even a provocation, rather than a serious suggestion that plants can think.)
In hindsight it’s easy to look back on Bose’s experiments as novelty science. But Bose was widely respected, a serious scientist who would soon be knighted for his achievements. “The idea that plants make use of quantum physics to harvest light more efficiently has received a boost.
Plants gather packets of light called photons, shuttling them deep into their cells where their energy is converted with extraordinary efficiency.
A report in Science journal adds weight to the idea that an effect called a “coherence” helps determine the most efficient path for the photons.

“VEGETARIANS, get off your moral high-horses. It turns out that plants can hear themselves being eaten.
A report from the University of Missouri-Columbia stated that a collaboration of audio and chemical analysis found plants respond to the sounds caterpillars make when eating leaves. The study also concluded that plants respond to the sounds defensively,” quoting News.com.au.

I want to show you how ignorant you are. Any person who doesn’t eat meat is a hypocrite because even a turnip has blood, a carrot has blood, a tomato has blood. It has guts. The flour that makes bread which you eat is robbing the next generation of growth.”
“What is not God? What is not intent?”
“Is the act of eating a loaf of bread destruction? Yes, it is. How ignorant you are to say that the color of blood in animals should deny the carrot consciousness because its blood is orange. The only way you could ever live this belief righteously is to never eat, never drink, never wear anything, or grow anything. If you can do that, you have lived the doctrine.”
“Now I ask you, does a carrot have consciousness? It does. It is alive. Does an animal have consciousness? Just because you don’t have pet carrots that run around waiting to be watered and fed every day and don’t nuzzle up to you watching the TV doesn’t dismiss their ability to know. But you don’t see it that way. Here is where we start to really look at ignorance. You are ignorant, but that is nothing to be ashamed of. It is to say, ‘I see now. God to me is all that is and is not. God to me is the potential of all who have lived before me and those who will live after me, including amoebas, viruses, and bacteria, because they are creating mind, which belongs to God. They are all the mind of God.”'”
